HIMSS elects new Board of Directors members for 2001 - 2004

HIMSS would like to congratulate Leslie Grimmer, FHIMSS, Cynthia L. McKinney, FHIMSS, Bernie Minard, FHIMSS, and Lawrence E. Dux on their election as new members of the HIMSS Board of Directors. The election results were announced in December 2000 and they will serve from 2001 – 2004. These members bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in healthcare information and management systems to their new roles at HIMSS.

The following are the objective statements of the new board members.

Leslie Grimmer, FHIMSS

President, Enhancement Strategies, Inc., Farmington Hills, MI

Objective: To continue to align programs and services with member needs by fully supporting the Special Interest Groups and leveraging their diversity. To maximize professional growth through strong educational (especially regional) programs and to promote member development through improved access to opportunities for participation. Expand the visibility of our members’ disciplines through increased collaboration with other organizations and associations.

Cynthia L. McKinney, FHIMSS

Director, Management Engineering, Health Midwest, Kansas City, MO

Objective: My objective is to heighten the awareness of the benefits that can be achieved through the integration of efforts of all HIMSS constituents. This heightened awareness would require "integrated" education sessions, increased publications with multi-disciplinary approaches, increased networking opportunities, and a continued strengthening of our chapters. Efforts would be placed on reaching out to healthcare entities to enhance their knowledge of the benefits the HIMSS organization could offer, from both a professional and personal perspective.

Bernie Minard, FHIMSS

Retired SRVP & CIO, Methodist Health Care System, Houston, TX

Objective: The work of checking patient eligibility, verifying benefits, making and validating referrals, and submitting and processing claims is frustrating, time-consuming, and costly for patients, their families, providers, and payors, and absorbs significant healthcare resources that could be used for other initiatives. Improvement efforts by individual practitioners and institutions have been disappointing. The large and influential HIMSS organization could rally constituencies and expedite remedies. As a board member, I will take a leadership role in such an effort.

Lawrence (Larry ) E. Dux

Director, Planning & Support Services, Waukesha Health System Inc, Waukesha, WI

Objective: To promote greater collaboration among the Annual HIMSS Conference co-sponsoring organizations, promote the development and growth of the Special Interest Groups as a way to enrich the educational/networking opportunities for Annual HIMSS Conference attendees, promote greater collaboration/support of the local chapters in presenting local/regional educational events, and promote ongoing career development workshops at the Annual HIMSS Conference.
