FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Online participation open from December 15 through February 8.
Survey participation will also be available onsite at the 2001 HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition, February 4-8, 2001, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Dell will furnish the onsite computers for participants to access the Survey.
"Over the past several years, the HIMSS Leadership Survey has grown immeasurably, both in terms of participation numbers and reputation in the healthcare industry," said HIMSS Chairman Walter R. Menning, FHIMSS, Vice Chairman, Information Services, Mayo Foundation, Rochester, MN. "A great deal of that growth is attributable to the support of its sponsors, which have included the Hewlett-Packard Company and most recently IBM.
"Under this new sponsorship by Superior and Dell, the Survey will move into new levels of data collection and analysis of the trends, directions, and key issues facing CIOs, provider organization professionals, and other top-level decision-makers from healthcare organizations around the world."
"As an organization whose dedication to the advancement of healthcare information technology parallels that of HIMSS, Superior is honored and privileged to sponsor the 12th Annual HIMSS Leadership Survey," said Superior’s Executive Vice President, Charles O. Bracken. "The Survey not only captures the individual judgment of each respondent concerning the multiple issues facing healthcare IT professionals, it enables all segments of the industry to leverage that collective expertise to make informed decisions pertinent to their survival."
"Because Superior’s organization comprises leaders and practitioners who are involved in the entire spectrum of the healthcare delivery system -- including executives, clinicians, and futurists/trend analysts -- we truly understand the importance of the strategic use of information technologies and systems in the industry," continued Bracken.
"Dell is committed to serving the healthcare industry and sharing our best e-business practices with organizations interested in advancing their IT infrastructure," said David Toms, vice president and general manager of Dell’s healthcare division. "In sponsoring the 12th Annual HIMSS Leadership Survey, we are working with HIMSS and Superior to collect and analyze invaluable information that will ultimately help healthcare organizations be successful and competitive against the growing IT challenges the industry is facing today."
"The expanded participation schedule has enabled HIMSS to provide more detailed analysis of the Survey results and a higher level of information for the industry," said Menning. "Making online participation available prior to the Conference gives Survey participants the time and opportunity to research necessary data and ensure quality responses to each question at their convenience," he said.
Each year, the HIMSS Leadership Survey explores topics regarding the planning for and adoption and use of information technology, including overall IT utilization, IT budgets, computer-based patient records, data security, Internet applications, telehealth, and emerging IT technologies. Analysis is then conducted at the departmental, single facility, and enterprise levels.
Preliminary results of the 12th Annual Survey will be announced at the 2001 HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition and posted on the HIMSS Web site. Final results will be available in a comprehensive report shortly thereafter.
